Thadeusz Tischbein is a Germany-based video artist. He is interested in cruel intersections of history and everyday live. In his films he often uses documentary material along with models and archival material to develop a fictionalized version of a documentary, a forensic speculation.
His 2017 video essay SNOW WHITE (2K Cinemascope, 19:40 min) is a journey to the dead bodies in mausoleums, churches and museums. In THE ATLAS OF THE WOUNDED BUILDINGS (HD, 12:56 min, 2016) he is trying to examine narrations written in bullets holes. INVENTORY (HD, 16:9, 5:49 min) from 2015 is reflecting about the strange living room of so called office plants. Most of the films were shown on international film festivals and exhibitions – among others Manifesta 12 Palermo, EMAF Osnabrück, Girona Film Festival, IndieLisboa, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin and VideoSoundArt Milano. Thadeusz Tischbein studied between 2008 and 2016 in Leipzig, Braunschweig (Germany) and Bucharest (Romania) with Candice Breitz, Clemens von Wedemeyer and Günther Selichar.

REICH DER TIERE
We see the Bismarck monument that once existed on this site. However, we are no longer interested in the well-known gentleman, but turn to his also immortalized dog. It was popularly and in the media called “Reichshund”. Now let’s enter the dog monument. Here – in addition to some small models of monuments – a short version of the film “Reich der Tiere” by Thadeusz Tischbein is to be seen.
Thadeusz Tischbein has been on a journey to the largest German national monuments, some of the heaviest chunks in the nation’s digestive tract, so to speak. And here he came across all sorts of animals, which do not accidentally come into conversation with mythical creatures and animals from legends and myths. After all, the Brothers Grimm were also involved in the fairy tale of the ancient nation.
